Why the change?

Avaricia was created to compliment the webcomic that came before it-- to immerse readers into a world much like our own, but far from it. What started out as a tiny site made for the fun of it, quickly turned into a close-knit community where people of various ages could call home. From the beginning, Avaricia has strove to bring creativity into the world of Avatar communities where big eyes, small mouths, chibis, angels and demons are often the main attraction. Avaricia embraces a sense of realism with its more developed figures, more proportional features, and a deep storyline that weaves its way throughout. However, the fantasy of it all still remains, with timeless characters, crazy, off the wall creations and ideas. This is not a teenage anime hangout. Instead, Avaricia is a community of like-minded individuals of all ages, both young and young at heart. All here for one reason: each other. Furthermore, the community has always been the driving force behind the site. It never ceases to amaze us that so many people continue to come back again and again.

When the site began, we never imagined getting beyond 500 members. Then, as people gathered and we got a chance to know these people--often beyond just the pixels and screen name--we found out that people stuck around for each other, not so much for the pixels. Of course, this is a great cornerstone for a successful community. But we felt that we had fallen short.

It was then that we decided that the site could be so much more, and the community could be that much better if we took the time to rebuild the primary building blocks of the site: the avatars and the systems behind them. This page serves as a teaser for the various things we have in store for all of you.

Recreating The Avatars

In September, we decided that it was time to redo our avatars from the bottom up, fixing all the problems, making sure that every critique and complaint was carefully considered. We consulted the community for feedback, resulting in bases that we could all enjoy.

Beyond just the body, you can now have full control over your avatar's facial features. Why settle with big eyes and a small mouth when you can make your avatar truly unique to you! At Avaricia, we feel that making an avatar isn't just about matching your hair and clothes, but developing a distinct character.

AIS: The New System

Our development team has been hard at work creating new and unique system called AIS, which is just short for Avatar, Inventory, and Shops.

The Avatar System

With our new system, you will have control over every aspect of your avatar, tweaking it to your liking- while removing clunky hindrances that make it stressful and frustrating to make your avatar just right. You will be able to pose your avatar in some unique and different ways to truly add life to your character. We're designing it to be fun to use. Instead of clicking on tabs, you'll have the opportunity really immerse yourself in the process, creating an enjoyable, fun, and visually exciting system.

The Shop System

Have the tab blues gotten you down? Do you feel like shopping for items is just that-- going through a regular, systematic approach to picking out an item, maybe trying it on, and then buying it? How would you like to add some spice to the experience? We all know that shopping in real life is often more interesting than what you see in virtual stores. The characters we meet behind the register have their own unique personalities and quirks. Why shouldn't it be the same in a virtual world? Even artwork and dialog can only take you so far. We've got some interesting tricks up our sleeves to truly bring some innovation into the world of virtual shopping!

Other Developments

Beyond AIS, we are also working on developing some other exciting additions. We are hard at work on a very unique and fun friend's list, that's quite unlike any other. We are also in the progress of creating and adding fun games to play that are unique to our site. The artist team is creating some beautiful artwork that will cover the site and appear in various areas.

The Road Ahead

In the coming months, we will be spending a great deal of time getting these changes ready for all of you. It's a great deal of work and requires a lot of dedication. We're very much excited about these changes, and we hope you are too.

If you've left the site in the past, deciding that the avatars were not your thing, you may want to consider coming back. Once these new features are in place, we will begin promoting the site to get the word out. If things are as good as we hope they will be, this tiny forum will be a bustling virtual world in the near future. There's still plenty of time to get active again, and get your hands on some of those old event and limited edition items that you may have missed out on. We look forward to seeing you here!



CAPTURE THE CHARACTER Avatars are meant to represent yourself online. Why stick with the same shaped head and little nose? Tired of anime and want something different? Maybe you do like anime and wish to keep it. Don’t worry, we’ve got it covered! Create a cute shoujo girl, a brave hero, a jolly soul, or a devious villian! You can even create an avatar with a realistic ethnic heritage. The choice is up to you!



STRIKE A POSE! Our new avatars have been carefully redrawn, pixel by pixel to create something unique and dynamic, but still true to Avaricia’s roots. We’ve kept the curves and the more realistic bodies, but everything else has been changed--for the better! What’s more, our new avatars include pose capability. We’ll have an exciting range of exciting poses that allow you to hold an object, or add life to your role play characters.



DRESS YOUR BEST We’re painstakingly redrawing our collection of nearly fifteen hundred items to fit on our new bases, as well as make them compatible with poses. Each item will be carefully made to fit and layer properly. No more skin sticking out between hemlines. We’ll be using a unique style that combines a CG effect with true pixel art, for an outstanding look.
