Reading and knowing the rules of this site is imperative to having the best experience on Avaricia. We want everyone to have fun while they're here. However, certain behaviors make everyone's experiences less enjoyable.
...............................................DO NOT SPAM!
Spamming is considered posting topics and replies with one or two words, excessive use of emoticons, or lines of gibberish, done solely to earn more virtual currency. If we notice that you are participating in this behavior, your posts will be deleted, and currencies altered. (50 credits and 25 jades per EACH post, regardless of length)
When posting large blocks of text that you did not write, or that you did not write into the text area of the site, please quote it. Mistakes happen, but if you are caught doing this repeatedly, this is considered to be abuse.
If we find that donations and trades have been made between accounts that were involved in spamming, you will receive a final warning, and have all virtual currencies removed. Further actions will result in your account permanently banned.
...............................................DO NOT HARASS/TROLL!
Harassment and Trolling is not tolerated on the site under any circumstance. This constitutes using harsh or abusive language toward any other members, moderators or staff members.
...............................................KEEP IT PG13!
Please keep all content and subject matter on the site suitable for ages 13 and older, this includes images, user names, and written content. While we do allow the discussion of more mature subject matter, you must not use explicit or graphic images or language. When making a topic that may contain more mature subject matter, please label it as “[MATURE]”. If your Role Play absolutely must include graphic details, handle them off-site. You may summarize it in a clean matter on the forum.
In regards to cursing: We do not filter or disallow cursing on the forums. However, harsher language should be used in moderation and NEVER be directed at another member of the site. There are places where more cursing is acceptable (Roleplays, written works, personal hangouts). But please be aware that using them freely in general discussions where all members can participate may be considered rude and disrespectful.
...............................................USERNAMES CLEAN & FRIENDLY!
Accounts found with inappropriate user names made solely for shock value will be banned on spot regardless of what the account contains. This is considered to be a form of trolling. Keep the lady and manbits as well as R-rated material out of your user name please. We don't care how trendy it is to combine your favorite curse word, private body part with rainbows and glitter. Sure other places may allow it, but we don't.
...............................................GLITCHES!
Those found knowingly and openly exploiting and abusing any glitches to “get ahead” will be permanently banned. If you are aware of a problem, PM an admin and inform them of this problem. It is recommended that you do not post a new topic about these problems.
...............................................AVARICIA CURRENCY + ITEMS!
You may not trade your credits, jades, or event currencies for virtual currency on other sites (Gaia Gold, Neopoints, etc). Trading items in a similar fashion is also not allowed (Rare item on another site traded for a rare item here). This is a banable offense.

Don't cheat to get ahead. Treat others with respect. Keep it clean.

We are a community that welcomes members of all ages, both young and old alike. Avaricia is targeted toward the 18-24 crowd and older. However we welcome members as young as 13 years old on the site. For this reason, we make sure that all content is appropriate for minors to view. We recommend those under the age of 13 to not register on this site as some content and subject matter may not be appropriate.
...............................................NAME CHANGING POLICY!
Choose your user name wisely and carefully. Do you really need to add a long string of numbers to your user name? Also, consider the people who have gotten to know you as your current user name. Changing it only causes confusion. Your first name change costs 5,000 credits, your second will cost 10,000, third 20,000, fourth 40,000 and so on. If you've made a spelling or capitalization error in your name, we will change it without charge. We will also change your name without charge in the case of special circumstances such as stalking or harassment.
...............................................EXTRA ACCOUNT POLICY!
You are allowed to have two accounts that you may use at any time on the site. Your first or primarily used account is called your "Main Account". Additional accounts are referred to as “Mules”. If you are found with more than two accounts, we will ask you to remove all items and currency from each account within a 48 hour period. If they are not removed, the accounts will be banned, and your items will be lost forever.
...............................................DOUBLE POSTING POLICY!
You may not make one post after another within a 12 hour period. This is considered double posting and a form of spamming. If you have anything important to add, we ask that you edit your first post. Making several posts in a row in order to set up a hangout, shop, or contest thread is acceptable within the Marketplace, Hangouts, and Artist Shops, Arts and Crafts, and Event forums, including the sub forums thereof. Usually reserving the first page of the thread will suffice (15 posts).
...............................................BUMPING POLICY!
We only allow bumping of threads when the topic falls off the first page, or after 12 hours have passed and no activity has occurred in the thread. Such as the case with shop threads in the marketplace where it's very active. It is recommended that you write “Bumping thread to the top of the list since nobody has replied in awhile”. This will earn you more than writing “Bump” anyway. Creating threads solely for bumping are not allowed as they are considered spam.
...............................................BBCODE & FORMATTING POLICY!
You are allowed to format your text to your heart's content. We do not have any rules against using too many BBcodes, since they are not calculated in your earnings per post.
...............................................POST DECORATION POLICY!
We allow a maximum of three images per post. This rule does not apply to setting up shop threads, or any specific kind of thread where posting several images is needed (such as in the case of showing off artwork, or photographs). Please keep your post decoration images clean and to a minimum. One small image is better than three large and obnoxious images. If you post styles are too distracting, we will ask you to change them, followed by any disciplinary action the staff feels is necessary.
...............................................THREE STRIKES POLICY!
You have three warnings. Once you are warned three times for any one offense you will be banned. The warnings are as follows:
Friendly Reminder: We will give you a reminder regarding a rule. While we do keep track of these, we do not hold these against you in the future.
First Warning: This warning will count against you. If the warning is in regards to spam, your currency will be altered.
Second Warning: Same as the first, only this is a more serious offense.
Final Warning: If you've made it this far, you are in trouble. Any further infractions will result in your account being banned.
...............................................BANNED ACCOUNT POLICY!
Once you are banned you are gone for good. We do not allow banned accounts to return under any circumstance unless they have been cleared of wrongdoing by an administrator. New and old accounts belonging to banned members will be banned on spot as they are discovered. To avoid this, make sure that you follow all site rules.
...............................................DONATION & TRINKET POLICY!
Any real-world monetary contributions to the site are considered donations to help support the site and those developing it. All donations are non-refundable and cannot be returned. In order to ensure that your virtual investments are safe and secure, always be sure to follow the site rules. We do not like banning accounts, especially those who have graciously donated to the site. However, if you are found abusing the site in any way, you will be treated the same as any non-donating member in the same situation.

You are not allowed to post links to your website in various places around the site as a means for advertisement. You may post a banner in your signature so long as the site content is within a PG-13 rating. All posting regarding avatar communities (members of, discussion of, or if you are the owner of one) belongs in this thread.
...............................................ARTISTIC NUDITY POLICY!
As a site that was founded by artists, we greatly appreciate the beauty of the human body. However, we need to keep other viewpoints in mind on a site with many different members of varying backgrounds and beliefs. To accommodate them, we ask that all artwork depicting full nudity in a non-sexual manner be linked off-site with bold, non-misleading warnings of content. All artwork posted on the site (forums, PMs, or any future additions) by the use of image tags and the like must have no less than genitalia and female nipples covered completely. We ask that you do not display any artwork or images that are overly sexualized, even with full or partial clothing on the site, nor use the PM system to transmit such images to others.
...............................................AVARICIA REFERRAL LINKS!
While the referral link system exists to invite your friends to this site, please use this feature wisely. When giving out a referral link to this site please keep the following in mind:
- If you are posting the link on another site BE SURE TO CHECK THE RULES/TOS OF THAT WEBSITE FIRST!!! I cannot stress this enough. Some websites forbid the posting of referral links. Others allow it, but perhaps only in certain locations. If you are in doubt, contact a moderator or staff member on that website prior to posting the link to make sure it's okay. Avaricia is not responsible for the loss of your account on other sites for breaking their rules or TOS.
- Quality over Quantity. Don't let greed get the best of you! Consider inviting trusted friends as opposed to a bazillion random people who may or may not appreciate the community. This is what the referral program is about, inviting your friends and family to the site, so that they can enjoy it with you, not so that you can earn a ton of virtual currency. Yes, we reward you with it, but that should not be the driving force! DO NOT ABUSE IT.
- Abuse of Referral Links You are permitted to give the link to friends or post it where it is allowed. However, bribing others to come, asking a ton of members to register just so that you will earn credits is considered an abuse of the system. We hold the right to remove all earned credits from the referral system if we find that anyone is doing this (including any items that were purchased with the earned credits).

This post contains some useful information to help find your way around the site. This way, you won't need to look far to find answers to your questions.
...............................................HOW TO EARN CREDITS/JADES!
- Browse the Site
You can earn a few credits here and there as you browse. It's not a whole lot, but it can help you reach that item you want. The longer you are active, the more you can earn.
- Post on the forums
Posting is the best way to earn virtual currency here. Write out your words, type plenty, and chat with others. You'll be earning loads in no time at all.
- Play the New Eden Lottery
If you feel like gambling, you can spend 25 credits on a ticket. You can buy up to 10 of these. Each week a random name is drawn. You may just find a nice chunk of change waiting in your account! More games will be added in the future to help you earn a bit extra.
- Get Lucky in Gachapon!
While browsing the site, you may notice a small token in your notice bar that reads "Gacha!". Click on this and you'll be taken to the Gachapon Machine where you can exchange your token for a prize! You may get random commons to help supplement your wardrobe, or you may get lucky and win a rare item that can be worth thousands of credits! Commons can be sold back in the shops while rarer items can be sold in the exchange forum. Tokens expire every night at midnight (EST), so make sure you use it while you have the chance!
- Exchange your talents for virtual goods
Are you an artist, writer, or designer? There's always a market for your work here! Beyond selling your art to members, there's often admin-sponsored art and writing contests for the comic and characters... because we just love collecting fanworks!
- Participate in Events
During events, you can earn special event items. Earn lots of these and sell them to other members later on to rack in loads. These happen about every two months.
- Check the site daily
Once in awhile, there are rare, limited time or limited quantity items added which not widely announced via the newsletter, but with forum announcements. We have random days during the month where we increase the credit and jade earning rate. We never announce when this is, but it's always a nice surprise! If you snooze you lose!
- Refer friends to Avaricia
If you enjoy the site, why not invite your friends to join you? Not only can you earn more by chatting with them, but we also give you a little incentive for inviting them. You can find your referral link in the "Referral Center" link at the top. Remember to check the information above for some very important reminders and guidelines regarding the referral link system. If could backfire on you if you do not use it wisely.
- Invest in LEIs and Event Items
These items are guaranteed to raise in value over time, especially since the site is small now and we are looking forward to a period of enormous growth in the near future. Now is the time to earn what you can while it's still affordable.
- Donate to help the site
Your donations are used to help support the site, it's developers, and add new and unique features. For donating, you earn trinkets which can be used to purchase special items. Some of these items are only available for a limited time. There's always a market for these, and it's a great way to earn lots of virtual spending money for neat outfits!
...............................................WHO RUNS THE SITE?
- Bobbi is the creator, lead admin, and lead artist of the website. She manages the greater bulk of the artwork, including the avatar bases, some of the items, the site design as well as the comic that the site is based on. Since she is more artistically inclined, she relies on commissioning programmers for their work. Dogcow, however is the primary site programmer at this time and will be responsible for our upcoming avatar, shop and inventory system.
Avaricia is not run by some corporation, or bunch of people in business suits. It's run by a geeky artist who is addicted to pixels, virtual worlds, and artwork. You'll often find her chatting it up in the forums when she's able.
